From athlete to academic

18 years of my life were dedicated to sports. My sport – decathlon – is undoubtably the most diverse and most individualistic sport there is and I celebrated great successes in my career that I can proudly look back at. However, 7 years ago, I gave up my athletic pursuits for other goals: advancing my academic career and, hopefully soon, becoming a professor at the university level.

This blog will transition with me. And while I will continue to inject athletic anecdotes and comparisons into future postings, my focus on this website will clearly be on my scholastic developments in research and teaching. I’ve just hit the halfway point of my 4-year doctoral program at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) and there are already many stories to tell (and some to rather forget).

Feel free to follow along and send me a message if you would like me to tell more about a certain topic or explore something that I haven’t thought about.
